Makin’ Music
what is Makin’ Music?
Makin’ Music is a yearly competition between the social clubs at Freed-Hardeman University. 2027 marks 50 years of the show, and every year gets more and more competitive and challenging.
The Challenge
The competition has the same rules every year:
Among the 6 directors selected for each club, you must create a show told through pre-existing songs with original, rewritten lyrics. Build a set, make costumes, and create harmonies and choreography for the cast.
These challenges become the categories by which the clubs are judged:
Lyrics, Vocals, Choreography and Blocking, Props and Set Design, Costume Design, and Entertainment Value.
achievements
I directed my club's Makin' Music show for most of my time in school, winning every single year. In fact, my 3 wins make up nearly half of all the wins the club has earned in its 89-year history.
Working with the most talented people on campus, I helped create stunning shows that wowed both audiences and judges.
In my final year, our show won every single category — something achieved only a couple of other times in the show's 50-year history.
For Glory, For Greece! (2026)
The rest of the Makin’ Music shows I directed (“When in Doubt, Call the Scouts!” and “There’s No Place Like Gnome!”) can be found on the Phi Kappa Alpha Youtube channel.
